Cáitlín, Meabh and Orla

OK girls! Its your 'time to shine' - you all have exams on 28th so I put up your main tunes here - let me know if I missed anything.

CLICK HERE  - Recognising Tune Types

Orla - Main tunes:

Táimse im Chodladh (Air) - click here to go to recording scroll down to weeks 3&4

Listen over to CD (track 4 I think) and really be sure of the tune, then put in pauses / phrasing to give feel to the tune. 1st part is excellent so focus on 2nd part and watch for those low C#s - make sure fingers are reaching up to the sticker.

Padraig O'Keefe's (Polka) - see recording below

Listen to start of 2nd part to get timing of E's and D of BD' E' E' D' - see copy for more details. Otherwise excellent.

Allistrum's March - see recording below. Just keep it at a steady pace and 'pull' the bow - ie give it a good amount of bow on the longer more emphasized notes. Play confidently even if you don't feel it - it helps me sometimes to imagine I am a cruel Queen or some other bossy type - it actually comes through in the playing!

Orla - Repertoire List (updated as of Monday 25th)

1) Johnny Mickey's Polka (the one from your school)

2) Maurice Manley's Polka

3) O'Brien's March

4) Sí bheag Sí Mór

5) Maggie in The Woods

6) Planxty Hewlett

Meabh - Main tunes:

Allistrum's March

Boys of Bluehill

Cáitlín - Main tunes:

About Padraig O'Keefe - from Wikipedia

Padraig O'Keeffe (Irish: Pádraig Ó Caoimh) (1887 – 1963) was a noted Irish traditional musician.

O'Keeffe was born in Glountane, Castleisland, County Kerry The area, part of the Sliabh Luachra region, was well-versed in music and Padraig was taught to play the fiddle by his uncle, Cal.  Among his pupils were Denis Murphy, his sister Julia Clifford and Johnny O'Leary. 1940s recordings were later issued on a CD "Padraig O'Keeffe: The Sliabh Luachra Fiddle Master" in 1993. He is considered the most influential player of the Munster style in the 20th century.

About the Recording

You can press play or download (two buttons on the track). You might find it helpful to make a CD or transfer the tracks to another device for easier listening by downloading the track files.

There should be a link there to give you the written music with ABC and a little background information on the tune - I am working on this!
