FAQ

Here you can find out the answers to some frequently asked questions.

Where are you one to one lessons based?

One to one lessons are based at The Square, Annacotty. If you know the Mill Bar in Annacotty, the Square is just a few yards down the same road. Please phone ahead if you plan to visit so we can make an appointment. Click here for directions.

 Do you provide instruments?

The following instruments are available to use 'on the premises' - ie you cannot take them home but we may allow you to practice during the week out of hours or if there is unallocated teaching space available.

Full size guitar

Full size violin

3/4 size violin

Funds allowing we hope to start providing one or two instruments for hire soon.

Student instruments are not expensive to buy though and can be sold on again fairly easily with little if any depreciation. We will be more than happy to advise you on buying your first instrument.

I am visiting Limerick on vacation. Can I join in on some of your events?

Have a look at our sessions page if you want to hear some live traditional music for free. You may also be interested in an intensive one to one class in a particular instrument while you are visiting. If possible contact us ahead of time to make a booking. We can give you specific details, directions and information. If you have any other questions about Limerick and traditional music feel free to ask. See the resources section of this site which may be particularly useful for visitors and tourists.

When will my lessons / classes be?

Generally one to one lessons are held on weekday afternoons /evenings between 2 o'clock and 9 o'clock and group classes at the weekend.

All group classes are held on a Saturday except 'Guitar Tips and Tricks' which is on a Sunday afternoon.

Who does the teaching?

See the Tutors page for details of regular teachers.

Master classes and Clinics - please see individual event details as we will hire in specialist teachers to give these special classes.

Why are some of your events for adults only?

Unfortunately due to the nature of the venues for some of our events - for example a public house - the events are not suitable for under 18s. We avoid this as far as possible but sometimes it is not possible to obtain a child friendly venue for dates on which a specialist teacher is available.

Can I attend my child's class?

Parents are welcome, if not encouraged to sit in while classes are running.

Sometimes a teacher may not have time to speak to a parent for long after or between classes, if this is the case leave your number and we will get in touch with you as soon as possible.

What about practice?

Having a parent at home to encourage and support students in their practice and development is a key factor in enjoyment and future musical success.

If you have left home already playing for a good friend now and again and organising a disciplined but fun practice regime will make the world of difference.

Depending on their age, students will need to put in regular practice time. Little and often is best. Starting at just 10mins a day for a very young student (or whatever they can manage and build upon this) up to 30mins a day from 12years and older. Aim to practice five days a week and fit into your homework routine. There are some good internet resources on how to practice effectively, your teacher will also discuss this with you.
